RE: T. W. Brown Oil Company Contaminated Soil Cleanup Project

Applied Environmental Technologies, Inc. has applied to the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District (APCD) for a permit to operate soil vapor treatment equipment at 1905 Cliff Drive in Santa Barbara, the site of JR’s Gas Station. This equipment will treat soil that has been contaminated with gasoline from underground tanks. The law requires that we notify you, since you are either the parent/guardian of a student attending that school or are a resident or business located within 1,000 feet of the site.

The APCD requires the use of air emission control equipment to minimize emissions to the air from treatment of the soil. The APCD’s modeling analysis shows that the expected emissions from this project (after the use of emission controls) are below any thresholds for a significant air toxics risk to public health and the environment. The APCD has imposed conditions on the permit to operate for this project that will minimize the release of emissions into the atmosphere during the vapor extraction of the soil contamination.

A copy of the draft Permit to Operate permit document (PTO 12053) prepared for this project is available for review at the following locations: APCD offices (260 North San Antonio Rd, Suite A, Santa Barbara); and Santa Barbara Public Library: Santa Barbara Branch (40 E. Anapamu, Santa Barbara).

You can also download the draft permit document (PDF file) by clicking here.

Please provide any comments to us within 30 days of the receipt of this notice at the address below (Attn: Al Ronyecz, 961-8877).

Sincerely,

Michael Goldman, Engineering Supervisor
