Portable Construction Equipment Must Now Be
Registered with State
or Permitted by County Air Pollution Agency
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Santa Barbara County Air Pollution
Control District announced today that portable construction
equipment previously exempt from permitting requirements must now be
registered with the state’s portable equipment registration program
OR permitted by the District by September 18, 2008. The District
Board adopted changes to rules affecting this equipment on Thursday.
“Industry stakeholders came to numerous meetings and gave us
valuable input so we could design a rule that would address
requirements of state and federal agencies, and implement the goals
of our Clean Air Plan—and at the same time be feasible and practical
from a business perspective. It was a good process,” said District
Director Terry Dressler.
Certain types of portable construction equipment, including air
compressors, generators, concrete pumps, abrasive blasting
equipment, pile drivers, welders, cranes, and construction drill
rigs, with engines rated 50 brake horsepower and above that are
operated in Santa Barbara County are required by September 18, 2008
to be either: 1) registered in the statewide portable equipment
registration program, or 2) permitted by the District.

requirements is available on this page. Equipment operators with questions may contact the following.
