FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Health Advisory for Areas Affected by Smoke from Wild FireSANTA BARBARA, CA — The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department and Air Pollution Control District today issued a health advisory for people living in areas affected by smoke from the Perkins Fire burning near New Cuyama in Santa Barbara County. Smoke irritates the eyes, nose and throat, and is harmful to breathe, posing a special risk to adults and children with asthma or other respiratory diseases. The agencies recommend that people consult their physicians if their symptoms worsen. This advisory is precautionary for Santa Barbara County residents at this time. Dr. Frank Alvarez, Acting County Health Officer, said, “Some of the smoke contents can have adverse health effects. Those in areas affected by heavy smoke should minimize their exposure by limiting sports and other vigorous activities, particularly avoiding strenuous outdoor activities.“ The weather patterns causing these conditions are expected to continue through Friday.
