Come to Earth Day Car Free and WIN!SANTA BARBARA, CA—The Santa Barbara Car Free Project, a cooperative project led by Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District (APCD), today announced the “Come to Earth Day Car Free and WIN” campaign in celebration of Santa Barbara’s Earth Day Festival (Sunday, April 18, 2004, from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm in the Santa Barbara County Courthouse Gardens). The Car Free project is a partnership of more than 90 area businesses, agencies, and individuals dedicated to promoting car free transportation to, and around, Santa Barbara for cleaner air. Mary Byrd, Santa Barbara Car Free Project Manager with the APCD, suggested, “Start your Earth Day celebration by choosing car free travel for cleaner air. Take a vacation from your car, and arrive at the Earth Day Festival on foot, or by bike, train, bus or shuttle – then stop by our booth and register to win prizes.” “Car Free” prizes include MTD Bus passes (www.sbmtd.gov) and pairs of roundtrip Amtrak® Pacific Surfliner train tickets that will be given away every hour at Earth Day. Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner serves Santa Barbara with several trains daily between San Diego and San Luis Obispo. For more info, visit www.amtrak.com or call 1-800-USA-RAIL. The Grand Prize of a Dahon Piccolo D3 folding bicycle with carry bag will be awarded towards the end of the Earth Day celebration. The bicycle weighs only 26 pounds and can fold to carry onto a train or bus. Provided by UrbanBikePacker, the bike and carry bag are valued at $350. For details, visit www.urbanbikepacker.com. To find out more about Santa Barbara’s Earth Day Festival highlights, including children’s activities, a green car show, organic foods, and a full day of music on a solar-powered stage, visit http://www.communityenvironmentalcouncil.org/ For more information on the prizes, the Santa Barbara Car Free project, and how to get to Earth Day car free, see www.santabarbaracarfree.org.
