RE: Chevron Service Station No 20-6699 Contaminated Soil Cleanup Project 101 East Victoria Street, Santa Barbara, CA

Holguin, Fahan and Associates, on behalf of Chevron Environmental Management Company, has applied to the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District (APCD) for a permit to remediate the gasoline-contaminated soil at the Chevron Service Station No 20-6699 located at 101 East Victoria Street in Santa Barbara. Before our agency issues this permit, state law requires that we notify you, since you are either the parent/guardian of a student attending Notre Dame School, Orca School or are a resident or business located within 1,000 feet of the site.

This contamination was caused exclusively by leaking underground gasoline storage tanks. The contaminated soil will be remediated using a Vapor Extraction System (VES) to remove the contaminated vapor from the soil then by sending the vapors to a catalytic oxidizer for destruction.

We are providing you an opportunity to review and comment on this proposed permitting action. Further, prior to issuing the final permit, we will submit to the permit’s administrative file our written responses to any comments we receive during the comment period.

A copy of the draft permit document (Authority to Construct 12213) is available for review at the following locations: APCD offices (260 North San Antonio Rd, Suite A, Santa Barbara); Santa Barbara Public Library: Santa Barbara Branch (40 E. Anapamu, Santa Barbara); and Santa Barbara Public Library: Goleta Branch (500 N. Fairview Avenue, Goleta).

The permit document (PDF file) may also be downloaded by clicking here.

Please provide any comments to us within 30 days of the receipt of this notice at the address below (Attn: Michael F. Goldman, 961-8821).

Sincerely,

Peter Cantle, Manager Engineering & Compliance Division
